Content Area Goal: Industrial Design Sketching
I have enjoyed engineering this whole semester and I feel like a really big part of that was because we learned and practiced industrial design sketching. From the very beginning, I was excited to learn about it. I thought you did a really good job when teaching us the different “techniques” of design sketching. What I felt was most successful about it was the way it was taught; we were given a lesson, then time to work on our own sketches within that new lesson. If we were able to get the technique down ourselves, there was always a little time to help out classmates if they ever needed it and that helped me advance my skills even further.
I have no doubt that my technical skills in drawing have have definitely improved because of this class. I was doubtful of my ability to draw going to each of the lessons but somehow I almost always surprised myself. I feel like all of the lessons we went through really shined in my final draft for our play therapy sand box. My evidence for my growth in design sketching all lies in my sketchbook and my 3 drafts of our product. I feel like you can see the improvement, especially in the way I executed my main view of our sand box.
Cross-Disciplinary Goal: Collaboration
Going into our groups for our engineering project, I was really pleased to see who I was working with. During this semester I think the three of us, Athena, Marysol, and I were a really good trio for this group. Not only did we work really well together but throughout the entire project I felt like we always were open to one another's ideas. I don’t think I’ve had a group before that was so open and understand of each other's ideas. We were all on the same page during the entire time of this project. We all were in equal aggreeance of all the roles we chose.
The evidence I have to backup my claim would have to be our brainstorming process. We all thought of a large variety of ideas and narrowed it down together. I’m thankful to have had such an easy going group, who was always open minded.
Self Identified Goal: Focusing & Questioning
Focusing was my first self-identified goal of the semester but it has been something I have struggled with. I know focusing is in my control and I’ve been trying to be aware of it. It has mostly only been during work time, when I struggle with it the most. I learned from my actions, and I realized how important that time is. Once I was able to dive into my drafts, it became a lot easier because I really enjoyed working on it. I think I still have work on self control sometimes, and I want to apologize for the time I haven’t used wisely.
As for questioning, I believe I have worked on it. When it came to my drafts, I struggled when I was trying to start them off. I feel like I did reach out to my peers for help and took their critique into consideration. I’m really glad I did so, because I feel like my drafts developed so much because I asked questions. For example, when I wasn’t sure how I could fill up the empty space, and how to add a different perspective of our product, I asked my peers and reached out to you (Mr. Poole).
The content-area goal I struggled the most in was the Computer-Aided Design. The reason for that is because I found it really frustrating to get the hang of. I understood how to do it when we were being told how to do it but I feel like I never got a deeper understanding of how to use it. What I mean is, we would be told how to do it and in the moment I got it but when it came to going back to it without instructions, I really struggled to create the figure we were trying to create.
Based on all the information above, I feel/hope I deserve and A. I wouldn’t say an A+ but just an A. I got all of my work done and I when I work on something, I always make sure I work on it until I am happy with it. I really don’t enjoy settling for less then what I am capable of. I do believe there are times where I turn in something I am not fully happy with and that’s mostly because of time. I do know that I don’t always use my time wisely and I feel like that is something I need to work on and I will continue to do so. I am the type of person who works better with a little pressure because I create something that I know I have to be proud of. I may procrastinate but I know I always get it done. I worked really hard to perfect my final draft and I’m still not done. I will push myself to find ways to make it better until I am satisfied and I have to make sure my work reflects the type of student I am. I have learned a lot this semester and I would argue that I have learned the most and, grown the most in engineering class. I learned how to further advance my technical drawing skills, the ways of innovative thinking, how to properly work in a group. I practiced being open minded, and understanding of my group members.
