Visualizing NumbersProblem statementComing into class, we were given this picture to analyze for 5 minutes. Not really sure what it was about at first, we formed questions about it as a class. After that discussion we revealed the purpose of this activity: What patterns do we notice and how can we prove what the 36th group of circles look like.
The processAfter the first 5 minutes of forming our own ideas about this problem, we shared out as a group. From there we built upon one another observations. One of the first observations made was a classmate named Pablo, he noticed that all of the prime numbers were in the shape of 1 circle, and the shape prior to that was always a triangle. After we continued to look for more patterns. Unfortunately, there wasn't much we discovered for the remainder of class. For that time being, we came up with the conclusion that the 36th shape would be in the same shape as 30th group but with one more group of six. This was certainly not the end of journey with this problem.
