Problem Statement
To kick of the Cost of College 2015 project, with a partner we created a "fake student." In our partnerships, we entered our students: living conditions, financial situations, GPA, etc. into several colleges "Net Price Calculator" found on their websites to find out an estimate of what the students net cost if they lived on campus. Hoping that a parents will be able to relate to at least one "fake student."
The Process
We began this project by discussing if we felt that college is worth is based on an article we read as a class. After identifying the pros and cons of attending college; we all separated in partnerships of 2. Each pair was responsible for creating a "fake student." We created this student by entering their information into several colleges net price calculator, then continued to enter their information/results into the class spreadsheet. I was in a partnership with Athena and our "fake student" we created was named Athyssa Marissa. Her guardian is a single mother. Her family is a total of 6, and 2 of her siblings are already attending college. She has a GPA of 1.9, which does not qualify her for the CalGrant A. Her single mother has an annual income of $45,000. Athyssa's family had a savings of $500 to go toward her college education, plus $1,500 from her own savings. We struggled finding reasonable numbers to enter into the net price calculator because Athena and I didn't really know what the average income is, or how much families have in their savings and etc.
The Solution
Below is a link to the class spreadsheet:

Self-ASSESSMENT
I would give myself an A for part one because Athena and I reached all of the requirements on time, if not early. We also used our time wisely in class, so we had no homework for part one.
A quality of a mathematician that I worked on this first part of our project was questioning. Athena and I worked together to find out the proper information to put into the net price calculator. We asked our math teacher and reached out to our peers and google to help us find the right answers.
